Grease Traps
Grease traps are required to prevent fats, oils and grease from entering into your plumbing system and main sewer line where they can solidify and create a clog. Grease traps rely on the fact that grease is 10% lighter than water, allowing grease to rise into the trap while water and waste solids pass into the sewer or septic tank. While grease traps require frequent maintenance, the alternative is needing to track down a blockage that could be anywhere in your plumbing system or sewer line.
A sewage backup will not only result in the need to shut down for complicated repairs, but could result in contamination of food and water, and serious damage to your building. A clog that develops in the municipal sewer line will result in a fine for cleaning and repair, in addition to fines for health code violations. In short, it’s best to keep your grease traps clean and effective.
